Complex Artificial Electromagnetic Structures and Nanostructures

The project will investigate artificial high frequency electromagnetic structures composed generally from sub-wavelength cells that show unusual electromagnetic response not appearing in nature. These are planar artificial magnetic, and electro-magnetic surfaces, electro-magnetic band-gap, and frequency selective materials including graphene. Materials will be theoretically described and analyzed. The research will be supplemented by fabrication of specimens for experimental verification of their behavior. Investigation of graphene preparation methods will be included. Measurement of fabricated structures will follow including planning their applications with the aim to improve behavior of namely radiators, sensors, and other systems up to nanometric scale of their basic cells. Special attention will be paid to develop numerical methods, ways of modeling, and equivalent circuits of studied structures including applications of carbon nano-tubes and graphene. Necessary measurement and imaging methods as magnetic resonance will be developed in parallel.
